Is this the spookiest house in Prince George?

Prince George – If you’ve been in the Peden Hill Neighbourhood, there’s a good chance you saw this spectacularly scary home. Decked out with decorations beyond belief, this home actually had quite humble beginnings, as it didn’t become the eye catcher it is right away.

“My grandson was all excited, he was walking around and seeing halloween, and we thought ‘hey, why not decorate for him?,” said homeowner Arlene Veller.

That decision came eight years ago, and since then the collection has gradually grown, as the Veller family has bought many small decorations and one big one each year. Each year is around a two week process to get all the decorations set up, and Veller estimates the total cost of the decorations is around the $4000 mark. While it’s quite the financial investment and time commitment, Veller explained her motivation is simple.

“It’s so much fun when you watch all the little kids when they come to your door, it’s exciting! You see the same kids every year, it’s just magical,” she said.

Another big reason Veller decorates as much as she does is to keep the Halloween spirit alive. Believing that it’s starting to dwindle, Veller is sad to see less houses decorate and less trick or treaters out each year, and hopes to continue keeping the tradition alive, as she remembers how much fun she had as a kid during Halloween.

“I had this one little girl come a couple years ago, she was tiny, and she said she wanted to live here for a week because it was her magical place,” she said, when looking back on some of her favourite Halloween moments.

While the house is already incredibly decorated, even more is expected for Halloween night, as Veller said she has a couple more things to put out, including cobwebs.
