PRINCE GEORGE— The Simon Fraser Bridge has been in construction since January 2022 and was originally expected to be open in the fall of that year.

However, it was delayed until September 2023 due to supply chain issues. The bridge was then further delayed until October 2023. The Ministry of Transportation has now stated that the bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in early December 2023.

According to the province, the Simon Fraser Bridge is the busiest in Northern B.C., with nearly 18,000 vehicles daily and is a crucial link for the northern supply chain.

No update has been provided on whether or not they surpassed the original $20.5 million budget.
