Prince George Council of Seniors seeks funding and volunteers for the holiday hamper program

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Council of Seniors Hamper program has existed for several decades. The council is putting out a plea for funding and volunteers to help better serve those seniors who find themselves in a difficult time during the holiday season.

It’s just over fifty days until Christmas day, and the front desk of the Prince George Council of Seniors is helping seniors fill out application forms for food hampers for the festival season.

“So anybody over 65 they’re invited to come in and fill out an application if they need assistance doing that. We have people at the office here to help them do that.”

The council will process the application to determine eligibility. Last year, over 180 hampers were handed out to seniors looking for assistance.

The Council of Seniors has streamlined the donation process by accepting cash or gift cards as they can reach more seniors.

To make the hamper program successful, the Council of Seniors needs volunteers to help move the project forward.

Those who want to volunteer should contact the Council of Seniors to arrange a time when they can make a difference for a senior.
