Joshua Ravensbergen named WHL netminder of the Week for the second week in a row

PRINCE GEORGE— The Cats have once again received awards for their on ice achievments. This time the honours are going to rookie netminder Joshua Ravensbergen, who has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 5 2023.

Ravensbergen is the first back-to-back winner and first repeat winner of the WHL Goaltender of the Week honours this season.

The 16-year-old North Vancouver product went 1-0-0-0 with a 0.65 goals-against average (GAA), .980 save percentage (SV%), and one shutout across two appearances this past week.

Ravensbergen’s first appearance came Friday, November 3 against the Saskatoon Blades, where he entered the contest in relief during the second period of play. Over 32:20 of crease time, the 6-foot-4, 180 pound goalie stopped 10 of the 11 shots, finishing the night with no decision in a 5-3 loss to the Blades.

He was then given the start Saturday, November 4 at Prince Albert, where he made 38 saves in a perfect 5-0 shutout victory over the Raiders. He was named First Star of the game.

Through seven games this season, Ravensbergen is 4-1-0-0 with a 1.98 GAA, .929 SV%, and three shutouts. He currently leads the WHL in shutouts, is tied for the League in save percentage and sits second in goals-against-average.

Ravensbergen has won three consecutive starts dating back to October 6 versus Wenatchee Wilds.

Having gone six wins and four losses over their previous 10 games, the Prince George Cougars sit First atop the WHL’s Western Conference with a record of 12-5-0-0.

Unselected in the draft, Ravensbergen was assigned to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement on April 24, 2023. Before joining the Cougars he spent three seasons with the Vancouver NW Hawks AAA program, going 15-2-3 with a 2.10 GAA and two shutouts at the U18 level in 2022-23

The Prince George Cougars will be returning home from a five-game East Division road swing where the will host the Red Deer Rebels this Friday, November 10 at the CN Centre. Puck drop at 7 p.m.
