PRINCE GEORGE—UNBC Timberwolves had another great year as the 9th annual Timberwolves Legacy Night breaks fundraising records. With all proceeds going to UNBC student-athlete scholarships and bursaries.

“I am truly stunned and beyond thankful. The amount of support we receive year after year blows me away,” said UNBC Director of Athletics, Loralyn Murdoch. “Last year, with 140,000 dollars, felt like a total that was difficult to fathom. When I saw the total this year, I was floored. The community that supports our program and our amazing student-athletes is incredible.”

This year’s keynote speakers were UNBC alumni Chantelle and Warren Grafton, who share their story of perseverance, goal-setting, teamwork and overcoming the odds.

“You could have heard a pin drop. Warren and Chantelle were absolutely amazing,” said Murdoch. “When planning this event, we were looking for a speaker or speakers who represented what we are trying to do here with Timberwolves Athletics. “Team Grafton exceeded all of our expectations and wildest dreams. Their story, told with absolute honesty, and some humour, was something none of us will forget.”

Murdoch also want thank Canadian Tire who has been the event’s presenting sponsor for 9 consecutive years.

“Without Canadian Tire, none of this would be possible. I can’t thank Selen Alpay and his team enough for their incredible generosity and belief in our program,” said Murdoch, of the presenting sponsor. “They understand our vision, they trust us, and they are crucial to the success of Legacy Night.”

Chantelle and Warren Grafton were hoping to start a fund for an accessible bike for the people of Prince George, pointing to the freedom, independence and life changing effects their own accessible bike has had for them.

Selen Alpay and UNBC decided to do one better. Alpay and UNBC President, Dr. Geoff Payne joined the Graftons on stage to announce they would be splitting the cost for another accessible bike for the people of Prince George.
