Annual fundraiser for 100 Mile House hospital kicks off with a bang

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The South Cariboo Health Foundation’s (SCHF) annual Starry Nights campaign is underway in 100 Mile House.

There was another big turnout Saturday (Nov. 18) for the community’s largest fundraiser of the year. The night included special guests Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, who, along with many families, enjoyed hot chocolate, coffee and treats.

This year’s 21st campaign hopes to raise more than $80,000 for a space lab monitoring system for the 100 Mile House District General Hospital.

“The cost of this project is approximately $86,000 and we hope we attain our goal,” said SCHF President Richard Bullen. “Of course, we would always take more because that would allow us to purchase more equipment throughout the year.”

The campaign got off to a great start when the 100 Mile House Lions provided a donation of $11,100.

The campaign runs to the end of January and Bullen is confident it will reach its goal.

“All the money we’re raising stays in the 100 Mile area to support the 100 Mile House District General Hospital,” said Bullen. “The money will go toward equipment to help make the team here at the hospital have the right equipment they need. We will replace certain equipment that’s worn out. It will also be easier on some of the patients with some of the equipment we provide.”

You can walk past or drive by to take in the light display. You can support the SCHF initiative by dropping off a donation at hospital reception or donating online. The foundation’s website provides details on this year’s equipment purchase and allows you to donate.
