Prince George Humane Society looking for donations

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s definitely the season for donating, but the one group that tends to be forgotten about is animals. And although the holidays are always a bit more stressful for trying to get resources, the need for donations is year-round.

“We are 100 percent donor-funded, so without donations, we cannot operate.”

– Jamie Walsh, Animal Care Coordinator

And over the past couple of years, the amount of animals being surrendered has jumped substantially.

“With COVID came challenges with veterinary care, as everybody’s more than well aware of. And it’s something we struggle with as well. A lot of animals getting surrendered because people are unable to get veterinary care for them. Whether they can’t get into a veterinarian or the costs have increased so much that they are unable to afford the care for their animals.”

Adopting an animal can be a large commitment, but there are still a lot of small ways to make a large impact.

“Litter, food, wet food, toys, blankets, all of those things. Scratching posts that are gently used. We can always use those, as well.”

Donations can be given online and Walsh encourages people to come down and hang out with the cats during their operating hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and drop off donations in person as well.
