PRINCE GEORGE – Tara Webber has made herself known once again after breaking not one, but two records in the Florida World Powerlifting Super Finals on November 3. Although the homegrown Prince George athlete finished second, her impact on the lifting world was big.

“I set an all-time world record in the 148 lbs class. So, I squatted 705 lbs. I have the world record in 148 lbs class for squat and then I’m the lightest woman to ever squat 700 lbs.”

– Tara Webber, Canadian Powerlifting Record Holder

Having a competitive nature and a love for fitness since she was a kid, there was no doubt that Tara was going to succeed.

“I think it was like grade six maybe. Our teacher did fitness testing and I really liked being able to do the most push-ups and the most pull-ups of any of the girls.”

Once the record holder found the sport of lifting, there was no turning back. Being able to track her numbers easily, and see her progress, was a major factor.

“I’ve always liked going to the gym and being strong. I just like that [it’s very measurable]. I want to see how much I can lift and if I can lift more next time [I can measure it].”

The powerlifter is ready to start new goals for next year and get back to work.
