Elizabeth Fry Society receives $25,000 to help support woman in Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE—During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Rio Tinto has donated $400,000 to family violence support organizations across Canada including the Elizabeth Fry Society in Prince George.
In a release made on Wednesday, Rio Tinto Iron, Titanium and Diamonds Managing Director Sophie Bergeron said “Rio Tinto firmly believes that everyone deserves to feel safe and secure. Our commitment extends beyond the workplace, reaching into communities across Canada. We are dedicated to supporting local organizations that play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of women, children, and LGBTQ+ community members.”
The 16 Days of Activism takes part alongside the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on December 6. The day commemorates the tragic events at Polytechnique Montreal in 1989, where 14 woman were murdered in an anti-feminist motivated attack.
Through these donations Rio Tinto is looking to strengthen its commitment to address domestic and family violence by expanding support for local organizations across Canada.
