Foothills Landfill plans expansion to manage growing waste
PRINCE GEORGE – The Foothills Landfill is where 98 percent of the garbage from the nearly 97 thousand people in the region gets buried. And as the Regional District tells us, people should know how much waste they may create as the gift season approaches.
The face of the landfill is kept busy with an almost endless train of garbage trucks from the municipality of Prince George, commercial collection services, and regional transfer stations. As the landfill reaches its limit in one section, authorities plan to expand.
“ We are coming to the end of this life cycle for this cell of our landfill. This is our cell one. We’re only allowed to build our garbage mountain so high, and we have reached that limit. So within the next 4 to 5 years, we actually have to have a whole new area to put our garbage into.”
