PRINCE GEORGE — The Para Biathlon World Championships and Para Nordic World Cup Finals take a lot of planning and day-by-day work to keep the ball moving.

As Kevin Pettersen says, it starts years in advance to be able to host Championships like this and the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club has been meticulously planning out the event since 2019.

And although some might just think it’s about gathering volunteers and you’re good to, as we found out, it’s a lot more than that.

Pettersen explains that these events start way in advance as you not only need to get the event, but you also have to secure sponsors. More importantly, all of the officials and volunteers need practice to make the event possible which is why the ski club team began holding practice events two years before the competition.

“We had the biathlon national championships in 2022 with the with the cross-country provincial championships in 2022 as well,” says Pettersen. “That was kind of the start of what we consider a test events to get to get people really oriented after COVID. Those were our first events to get people oriented towards towards hosting bigger events.”
