Little Prince deferred

PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George City Council has deferred a decision around the Little Prince train.

The City owns the train, which is an historical part of the community having played a role in the construction of the then Grand Trunk Pacific railway in the early 1900’s.

The City currently sets aside $25,000 per year for The Exploration Place to operate the train in the summer months and the museum was looking for a budget of $100,000 and a new home for the train.

“The train is where it is because that is where the City put it,” noted Exploration Place CEO, Tracy Calogheros.

“I’ve been telling Council since 2009 that we are vastly underfunded,” when asked why the matter was coming to Council at this time, with Calogheros insisting she “is not a supplicant” coming to Council with the funding request.

Ultimately, Council decided to refer the matter to Administration and to have the funding request included in the budget discussions, which get underway at the end of the month.
