Prince George RCMP to hold an online safety and sextortion conference
PRINCE GEORGE— On January 15, the Prince George RCMP in partnership with School District 57 will host a Townhall-style meeting for parents and caregivers in the Prince George area at 6:00 p.m., at Vanier Hall. The event will run for two hours with a panel of experts there to discuss the online safety and sextortion.
The event is happening in the aftermath of 12-year-old Carson’s tragic passing after being sextorted through social media. You can read the full article here.
Speaking at the Townhall will be representatives from School District No. 57, the B.C. RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation Team, and Safer Schools Together. There will also be a question and answer period at the end of the presentations for those in attendance.
“This is an opportunity for parents and caregivers of school-aged children and youth to come andlearn from experts in the field of online safety and sextortion about how to best safeguard our kids,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “We are excited to be able to bring this style of information session to our community, as it is an area where many parents have expressed the need for more specific information on how best to keep their kids safe when accessing the internet.”
