Vehicle incident closes Highway 97 south of Hixon

HIXON —Update: RCMP confirm the crash involved two pickup trucks. They say the men in each truck were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Earlier: The highway has now opened to single-lane alternating traffic.

Earlier:: Quesnel RCMP have provided some details into Tuesday morning’s crash.

They say it occurred just before 6 a.m. and involved two vehicles in a head-on collision. Police say road conditions were “horrendous” at the time of the crash due to heavy snow and doesn’t expect the highway to re-open for some time.

They say two people have suffered serious injuries. We’ll update this story as soon as more information is released.

Earlier: Motorists beware: a vehicle incident has closed Highway 97 in both directions 22 to 24 kilometres south of Hixon between Olson Road and Cinema Road.

Drive BC says a detour is not available. No word yet on what caused the incident or when the highway will reopen.
