PRINCE GEORGE — New funding for resource-sector jobs was announced by Jobs Minister Brenda Bailey on Wednesday at the Natural Resources Forum, but Northern BC was mainly absent from any new funding.

The government is contributing as much as $8.6 million through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund to fund eight new capital projects, and the Minister said these new jobs created will help make sure that industries like forestry, remain viable. Coast Tsimshain Resources was the only Northern project announced today. They are a forestry company in Prince Rupert, and will be receiving $970,000.

“Natural resources helped build this incredible province and the local economies that are the foundation of B.C.,” said Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation. “The BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund helps B.C.’s forest-sector operators modernize and adopt the new, innovative technologies that get more jobs out of every tree harvested, while creating secure, sustainable jobs in forestry.”
