Jan 17, 2024 | 11:34 AM

PRINCE GEORGE – The ukulele is like the life of the party in the musical instrument world. It’s a pint-sized four-string wonder that’s from the guitar family. It has a tropical vibe and is a big hit in Hawaiian music. The Prince George Public Library is turning into a ukulele paradise with biweekly jam sessions for the young and the young at heart, strumming good times for everyone.

Over the past two years, the library has resonated with ukulele sound. Biweekly, music enthusiasts and aspiring ukulele players gather to strum and learn together.

“ It’s a free registration. You can just come and drop in, and we have a big supply of ukuleles here at the library. And the youth can come in and sit down and connect.”

Sarah Wildi

Ukulele instructor, Prince George Library

Around twelve people come together to jam and share their musical knowledge. For many, the significant takeaway is the opportunity to socialize while making music.

The ukulele’s sound can strike a chord with many people. What someone might not enjoy about the ukulele, another person may appreciate for its fun sound.

“There are certainly controversial instruments that way. I mean, I play accordion and banjo, and there are lots of jokes about both of those. I mean, every instrument has its fans and people who don’t like it, but I don’t think it’s going to hurt you.“

Raghu Lokanathan

Ukulele instructor, Prince George Library

If you enjoy its distinct sound and are willing to explore various music styles, simply follow the melody to the library and join the complimentary jam session.
