Large snowfall is a godsend for Caledonia Nordic Ski Club
PRINCE GEORGE – The last week has seen a large amount of snow in Prince George and area, with Environment Canada saying we’ve seen anywhere from 20-30 cm of snow, depending on the area. With an extra 5-7 cm expected, plus consistently cooler temperatures for the next two weeks, these conditions are exactly what the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club was hoping for ahead of the World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup Final and Para Biathlon World Championships
“The natural snow just gives it that really nice base that can be worked and groomed, and it also opens up all the other trails for all the other skiers, the recreational skiers and things like that. So this is the winter we’ve been waiting for and it’s great that it’s coming right now before we welcome the world,” said Kevin Pettersen, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club’s chair.
Pettersen explained the Ski Club has its own snow makers, so even without this natural snow it had the trails prepared for the upcoming world championships, but the natural snow and cooler temperatures ensures the facilities will be at top notch shape.
“It feels like Mother Nature is taking care of us when we need it. We got some good cold snaps, but they came later in the winter for making snow.”
