PRINCE GEORGE — More protocols can be observed during the Para Biathlon and Para World Cup finals than during an event for able-bodied individuals.

One of these protocols is accessibility, which pertains to easy access to buildings and the ability to use a wheelchair around the facilities without any obstruction.

Chris Gobbi, the Accessibility Chair for the Local Organizing Committee, determines the best approach to implementing these protocols.

“ Part of my job is to visit sites, review site plans, and determine how we will make things accessible.”

The club already implemented many additions in 2019. However, accessibility remains an ongoing challenge.

“ In 2019, it was definitely a bigger challenge making the Lodge accessible and stuff like that […] So this year is just building on that, right, trying to make things a little better.”

Building ramps comes with rules and regulations. According to Gobbi, the regulations limit a foot of ramp to an inch of rise.

“ We’re actually probably above that in many cases just because we want to make it as easy as possible to get in and out.”

After the events, the club will remain accessible for years to follow.
