City of Prince George prepares for spring with park and public washroom openings

PRINCE GEORGE — Don’t look now but spring is here.

In preparation for that, the City of Prince George has announced its schedule for park and public washroom openings.

The washrooms at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park and Carrie Jane Gray Park are both undergoing renovations over the coming months. The budget for each project is $500,000 which was carried forward from the 2023 budget.

Below are the proposed opening dates:

Park openings:

  • Jumpstart Multisport Courts – opened as of March 19, 2024
  • Carrie Jane Gray Park – Gates to the ball diamonds to be opened April 2, 2024.
  • Connaught Hill Park -Planned opening for mid-April – weather dependent.
  • Nechako Riverside Park – Opening Thursday, March 21, 2024.
  • Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park Spray Park – May 17, 2024. Weather dependent.
  • Beach Volleyball Facility (Carrie Jane Gray Park) – Opening April 2, 2024. Washroom will not be available until mid-April. Weather dependent.

Washroom openings:

  • Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park – Washroom nearest 17th Ave will reopen mid-April, weather dependent. The washroom nearest Exploration Place will remain closed, as it will be renovated. There will be portable toilets brought in for the users of the park in Mid-April.
  • Duchess Park – Playground washroom will open mid-April (weather dependent).

Outhouse openings:

  • Rainbow Park – Opening Thursday, March 21, 2024
  • Nechako Riverside Park – Opening Thursday, March 21, 2024

Drinking Fountains:

The following drinking fountains will be opened as weather dependent (that being frost being out of the ground)

  • Masich Place Stadium – Mid-April.
  • Jumpstart/ Rotary Skate Park – Weather dependent
  • Duchess Park Playground – Weather dependent
  • Duchess Park Dog Parks – Weather dependent
  • Ingledew Dog Park – Weather dependent

Masich Place stadium

The Masich track will be open to public walking and available for bookings and for user groups from April 2, 2024. It is still early season and Masich Place Stadium may close for public walking and bookings due to cold, snow and or ice.

Sports Fields

Sports Fields will remain closed until the beginning of May – Weather/Field condition dependent.

Parks staff will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates to residents as required.
