LGBTQ2SA+ Elder Abuse Awareness townhall being held on Thursday
PRINCE GEORGE — On Thursday, a townhall and book launch is being held in Prince George to highlight the recent research on LGBTQ2SA+ elder abuse done by doctors Gloria Gutman, Claire Robson and Jen Marchbank from Simon Fraser University, and will provide a chance to hear from seniors who have shared their stories.
You will hear and learn the experiences of LGBTQ2SA+ seniors who have told their stories in a new book Elder Abuse in the LGBTQ2SA+ Community. There will be presentations, readings, a Q&A session, as well as numerous information booths.
“When people talk about elder abuse, they tend to think about family members, but when you look at the gay community are divorced from their families or have been excommunicated by their families. So it’s not the necessarily the family that is the perpetrator.” – Dr. Gloria Gutman, Professor/Director Emerita, Dept. of Gerontology, SFU
