PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Kodiaks Selects program is in full swing.

They recently traveled to Red Deer, Alberta to represent Prince George and compete in the “Rumble in the Rockies” tackle football tournament hosted by the Alberta International Selects Football Club. The program was designed to develop Prince George athletes and put them in a position to compete with other all-star calibre programs.

The Kodiaks Northern Selects competed in 3 age groups including 13U, 15U and 18U. Day 1 of the competition featured skills competitions including 1V1 with receivers and defensive backs competing, a lineman challenge and a 40 yard dash competition. The Kodiak Northern Selects competed hard with 3 of the 6 finalists in the 40 yard dash competition being Kodiaks Northern Selects players. The weekend came to a close with the Kodiaks Northern Selects 18U defeating the Alberta International Selects 20-14 in the Championship game.

“A tournament that features this amount of talent creates an amazing opportunity for our players to compete and measure their abilities against some of Alberta’s top talent. The exposure to University Coaches and former CFL players, and the experience to play outside of Prince George is optimal for our players and families. We played hard, learned a lot, and found a way to win.” Said Kodiaks Program Director Coach Jamie Boreham.

The event was hosted in a unique facility in Red Deer known as the Dome. The Dome is a multisport facility that allows year round training.

The Kodiaks Northern Selects Program is wrapping up in April. The Kodiaks next program will be High School Selects for athletes in Grade 9, 10, 11 which run from May 1 to June 1 to prepare them to host Sexsmith Alberta on June 1, 2024. In late April the Kodiaks will be providing NFL Flag football for athletes aged 5-18.
