Snow clearing under scrutiny

PRINCE GEORGE – City Council is looking at possible ways to update the snow-clearing practices. In the most recent budget discussions, it was noted that the budget for snow removal hovers around $10 million, which some on Council felt was a little excessive.

The current practices were the result of the Mercury Report, which is now ten years old.

“Myself and Councillor Bennett said we need to look at it,” noted Councillor Brian Skakun. “Do we need to have people ploughing snow on the stat days? What are the costs of those? So, a number of things are coming back because it’s not sustainable.”
