Volunteer Week to be proclaimed in Prince George

Apr 15, 2024 | 5:31 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — It is National Volunteer Week and to mark the occasion the city of Prince George will hold a flag raising Monday morning (April 15).

It will take place at 9:30 a.m. outside of City Hall with Mayor Simon Yu expected to be on hand.

Prince George has a long history of passionate volunteerism, and as anyone here will tell you, it’s a real point of pride for the northern capital.

Back in 2015, thanks to the tireless efforts of locals during the Canada Winter Games, Prince George was considered the Volunteer City in the Province. Statistics from the era indicate upwards of 60 per cent of city residents over 15 years of age were engaged in volunteer work, and while Covid-19 recently affected turn out, the demand for volunteers has always remained the same, year after year.
