Downtown gets youthful perspective

PRINCE GEORGE – The downtown core has plenty of potential to be creative. With the demolition of the former Four Seasons Leisure Pool and the former Fire Hall, it’s a blank canvas and students in UNBC’s Environmental Planning program have created a vision.

“The students did a really excellent job of showcasing their creativity and some big ideas, but they were starting from some foundational knowledge, including the City of Prince George survey data, which they put out to the community last year,” says Rylan Graham, Assistant Professor of Environmental Planning.

The Environmental Planning department at UNBC did something similiar with what was called the urban village on 17th Avenue on behalf of the Aboriginal Housing Society.

The City is undergoing a review of the Official Community Plan. While the downtown is a small portion of that review.

“I think both the OCP but as well as the concept plan that the city develops for this actual district,” says Graham.

Public engagement in the Official Community Plan will be received until the end of August and the final recommendations will be presented by the end of next year.
