Emergency alert test

BC emergency alert test coming May 8

All compatible cellphones, including radio and television broadcasts in B.C. will receive emergency alert test message at 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

B.C. Emergency Management and Climate Readiness says the test will assess the system’s readiness ahead of an actual emergency and find if any adjustments are needed.

On the given date, your phone may look like this.

“This is a TEST of the Emergency Alert system. This is ONLY a TEST. In an emergency, this message would tell you what to do to stay safe. This information could save your life. This is ONLY a TEST. No action is required.”

The Province urges citizens to not call 911 for information about the test as it could delay help for people in crisis.

An emergency alert test after May 8, is scheduled to be sent out this fall on Wednesday, November 20.

Last year, the Province issued 24 Emergency Alerts.
