PRINCE GEORGE– Around 100 people gathered at the Red Dress monument on Highway 16 and Ferry Avenue. Celebrating May 5th. The National Day for Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People
The Red Dress Society first started gathering in 2016. Since then the ceremony has grown every year with more and more people coming to celebrate the life of loved ones by drumming and holding dresses along the highway.
When the Stand-In wrapped up cars were led by the Redrum Motorcycle Club to the House of Ancestors as people gathered for a healing ceremony and the Red Dress Alert announcement. A way for an alert to go out right away when an MMIWG2S is first reported missing. It is still in progress but is being worked on by the NDP Party.
