PRINCE GEORGE – The Emergency Social Service Centre (ESS) was activated earlier this morning to support wildfire evacuees in Prince George.

Located in trailers on the Prince George Exhibition Grounds, the ESS was activated at around 8:00 a.m. for 2500-3000 Fort Nelson evacuees. The shelter will be active from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day for as long as it is needed.

“Evacuees can also register for support services and get information by calling 778-675-3735. During large events the Provincial ESS information centre may be available. Evacuees, responders and suppliers can call 1-800-585-9559,” read a press release from the City of Prince George.

An ESS provides short term basic support for people impacted by disasters, and is a program financed by the provincial government. Resources can include hotel and meal vouchers, information, and temporary shelter.
