Man arrested following gun complaint at Quesnel high school

QUESNEL — A frightening incident at Correlieu Secondary School in Quesnel Friday morning (May 17).

Police say a 43-year -old local man was arrested after they received a report of a man walking toward the school with a handgun.

Police received the report at about 8:15 a.m. with witnesses saying the man was walking on Anderson Drive toward the high school.

Witnesses reported he was agitated and yelling at bystanders. For safety, the school was placed on a hold and secure, which is a partial lockdown. Mounties arrived on scene minutes later and arrested the man, who was found to be in possession of a replica handgun.

Mounties are praising the students for alerting police, adding that it is not believed that the man had any intention of entering the school or harming the students.
