A tragic ending in the search for a missing river rafter

PRINCE GEORGE—The Prince George RCMP and Search and Rescue have concluded their search for a missing river rafter after a family member reported he was overdue from returning on May 20, 2024.

Frontline officers, the RCMP Helicopter Air 3, and 18 Search and Rescue volunteers began searching along the Willow River where the man had launched from. On May 21, at around 4 p.m., the rafter was located deceased.

“Prince George RCMP would like to thank all of the agencies and Search and Rescue volunteers that were involved in this search and the subsequent recovery of the missing rafter. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service has taken over the investigation. RCMP say no further information will be released.
