PRINCE GEORGE – BC Bus North and Diversified Transportation teamed up today to run a stuff the bus campaign to support Fort Nelson Evacuees. Partnering with other companies like Save-on-Foods, Walmart, the Prince George Kodiaks, and Northern Health Connections, the campaign was held at the Save-on-Foods in College Heights and Walmart from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“We’ve kind of put our heads together to try to drive as much as we could to get this. We’re going to be doing this all week, we have drop off locations until Wednesday night,” said BC Bus North Operations Manager Nicolas Fricke.

The drop off locations Fricke mentioned will be the College Heights Save-on-Foods and BC Bus North’s Depot at 9122 Penn Road, so even if you missed the campaign today you can still donate to help Fort Nelson Evacuees. As for the types of items you can donate, Fricke says pretty much anything that would be helpful for a displaced family.

“We’re looking to gather nonperishable foodstuff, toiletries, new or gently used clothing, blankets, pillows, pet food, things like that,” he said.

“It’s the little things. I know we have in our organization families that were part of the Fort McMurray displacement in 2016. And they said the biggest problem that they had when they evacuated was everyday items, toiletries, clothing, because you forget about that. People grab water, they grab food, they run, but they forget the little things. So we’re trying to gather as many things as we could that they may have forgotten, that we can help support them with,” he continued.

Fricke added the campaign today went well, but unfortunately rain in the morning slowed down the amount of people donating, but he is still very grateful to everyone that did donate.

“It’s been very good, positive support from the people that have dropped off. We saw some very large donations from individual families, which has been absolutely fantastic,” he said.

While the day did pick up once the rain stopped, Fricke hopes more items can be collected before Wednesday to help support Fort Nelson families as best as possible, as every little bit counts.
