PRINCE GEORGE— With summer right around the corner it’s important to learn the signs of heatstroke so you can protect yourself and your family. Heat stroke occurs when your body temperatures increase to 40 °C causing confusion, seizures, heat rashes and even comas. If not treated quickly heatstroke can be fatal.

Kids and the elderly are most at risk of heat stroke but anyone who is out in the sun for a long period of time can develop it. If you begin to feel light headed or dizzy seek a cool place and drink plenty of water. Avoid food or drinks that dehydrate you like coffee or sugar. Instead opt for fruits and vegetables that contain both nutrients and water.
