PRINCE GEORGE — Three youth were arrested in a recent shoplifting and assault investigation.

It occurred May 21 at around 5:30 p.m. at the Pine Centre Save-On-Foods store.

RCMP say that when police officers arrived at the location, loss preventions officers (LPOs) at the store reported that two youth were involved in attempting to steal some items. When the LPOs stopped them, the LPOs were assaulted by two previously uninvolved but associated youth, one of whom began throwing items from the store at the LPOs.

“An off-duty police officer who was in the grocery store at the time witnessed the loss prevention officers struggling to take the youth into custody and assisted in arresting one of the youths. On their arrival, Frontline police officers arrested two of the youth for theft and one for assault. They were subsequently transported to the Prince George RCMP detachment where they were held in custody until they could be picked up by their guardians,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

One of the youth responsible for assaulting the Loss Prevention Officers remains outstanding. No injuries were reported to police officers following this incident. This file remains under investigation.

Pattison media and Save-on-Foods are both owned by Jim Pattison Industries.
