UNBC celebrates Class of 2024 this week
PRINCE GEORGE— The University of Northern British Columbia will begin celebrating the academic successes of 800 students during the 2024 convocation ceremonies.On May 31, Prince George will kick off the Thirty-first annual convocation followed by celebrations in Terrace, Quesnel, and Fort St. John.
The first student procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. from the Bentley Centre to the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre. Behrouz (Bruce) Danesh will be the valedictorian of the first Ceremony. NHL star goalie Carey Price and Grammy winner Alex Cuba will be receiving honorary Doctor of Laws during the ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled to finish at 11:30 a.m. and students will gather immediately afterwards for a class photo on the Ceremonial stairs in the Agora Courtyard.
Ceremony 2 will begin with a class photo on the ceremonial stairs at 1:15 p.m. and will be followed by the procession from the Bentley Centre to the Northern Sport Centre for the start of the afternoon ceremony at 2:00 p.m.The valedictorian of the second ceremony will be Will Hanlon. Kristen Kieta will receive the Governor General’s gold medal, Melody Mah will receive silver, and Mikhaila Carr will receive the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Inclusion, Democracy, and Reconciliation. Jim Good will be awarded a doctor of laws.
On June 3, 28 students will earn their credentials at UNBC’s graduation celebration in Terrace. the ceremony will be held at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre at 1:00 p.m.
