PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George has published its 2023 annual report and have identified some notable accomplishments.

The City says those accomplishments include:

  • Civic Core Plan and Official Community Plan (OCP) Review: In support of the goal of growing the city and creating a long-term vision roadmap with targets, the City completed public engagement for the Civic Core Plan and commenced engagement on the OCP review.
  • Quality of Life: Two new daycare centres, Tsuhl’ Cho/Huckleberry Daycare on Dagg Road and Kool Cats Family Daycare on Malaspina Avenue, were opened. These facilities were funded by the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund and the Union of BC Municipalities Childcare Space Creation Fund.
  • Accessibility Improvements: The City implemented the 2023 sidewalk renewal and new sidewalk capital programs, completing 485 meters of new sidewalk and rehabilitating 3,297 meters of existing sidewalk.
  • Community Safety and Health: Progress was made towards ensuring a safe, healthy, and clean community with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the provincial government in June to clarify roles and align goals.
  • Recreation and Inclusivity: In August, the City, in partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, announced the grand opening of the Jumpstart Multi-Sport Court in Carrie Jane Gray Park. Spanning over 28,000 square feet, it is the largest of its kind in Canada and is designed to accommodate physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities, supporting casual play and organized sports, such as basketball and pickleball.
  • Grant Funding: The City continued to pursue grant funding to offset capital expenditure budgets. Notable projects funded by grants included the new roundabout and daycare centres. In 2023, the City received $12.498 million from the BC Growing Communities Fund, facilitated by Infrastructure Canada and the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM).
