Prince George Hospice Society unveils 2024 Dream Home

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society unveiled its annual Dream Home today. As the Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Dream Home is essential to funding many of its programs.

“We have community programs, whether it’s for wellness, for grief, support caregivers in their home, people that have lost a loved one from an opioid death. We have all of these programs that are not funded, and the Dream Home lottery is the biggest funder for those,” said the Hospice Society’s Executive Director Donna Flood.

The home is located at 7327 Foxridge Avenue and offers many features and amenities, such as six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a walkout basement, open concept with kitchen island, and more.

“There is a hidden walk in pantry and it has a little spice shelf in it, so everything is kept neat and clean and out of the way,” said Alicia Fitzpatrick of the Hospice Society’s Fund Development.

“We have a beautiful covered patio right off the front of the house, overlooking the river and the subdivision, it’s quite a large patio there. We have a second patio off the back of the house too, so if you’re entertaining and you want to have all your friends over, there’s a huge amount of space there to be able to put everybody,” Fitzpatrick continued.

The Hospice Society fundraises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, and this is vital because Northern Health only partially funds the Rotary Hospice House, so community fundraisers like this are needed for the other programs. Among those is the relatively new home hospice program, which offers hospice and palliative care in the comfort of your own home.

“What’s unique about what we do is we’re available at night, so when things happen at night and people get frightened or they get scared, we’re able to just go in and help them through their journey so they don’t have to call the ambulance in the middle of the night or end up going into emerge (emergency). They can die in their homes as they choose,” Flood said.

The dream home also coincides with early bird prizes of 50/50 tickets where you can win 250 thousand dollars, furniture, and more, and you can buy tickets on the Hospice Society’s website or wherever you see them out and about in the community at places like canadian tire, costless liquor, and more.
