PRINCE GEORGE – The College of New Caledonia (CNC) hosted the 15th annual Dillon Adey Memorial Cup Golf Tournament today, which is a fundraising tournament honouring former CNC business student Dillon Adey. Dillon tragically passed away from a motor vehicle accident 15 years ago, and since then this tournament has been held to remember his kind spirit.

“He just loved to volunteer, he loved people. If he saw you struggling with something, shoveling your driveway, he’d stop and give you a hand,” said Dillon’s father Perry Adey.

Family and friends remember Dillon for his friendliness and hardworking nature, and the golf tournament carries on his legacy through its fundraising, which supports CNC and its students.

“It would’ve been something that Dillon would have wanted us to do to keep him here and keep his spirit alive by helping other students to get where he wanted to go,” said Dillon’s mother Cindy Adey.

CNC President Cindy Heitman says the impact this tournament has is huge, as hundreds of students have been supported through things like scholarships, new equipment, and more.

“The Dillon Adey golf tournament has contributed over $80,000 towards new equipment and almost another $200,000 towards scholarships and other donations. So in terms of the amount of students, we’re talking hundreds and hundreds of students,” Heitman said.

More than 140 golfers attended this year’s tournament, and Perry says the support the event sees through sponsorships, donations, and the golfers who attend every year blows him away and is greatly appreciated.

“They donate so much every year and some years it just blows your mind, your heart, when you go in there and they donate such a big item and you’re not expecting it,” Perry said.

“Prince George is one of the most wonderful cities you can ever possibly live in, everyone in this city is just so helpful and so willing to help support such a beautiful cause,” Cindy Adey added.

The pain of losing a loved one never goes away, but the Adey family is grateful Dillon can continue to impact the community in such a positive way, and that his legacy and kind spirit are remembered through this fundraising golf tournament.
