Get active through martial arts

PRINCE GEORGE—The Taekwondo BC Cup took place last weekend with athletes from across the province coming to train. As with every sport, Taekwondo is a great way to get exercise. However, the martial art has far more benefits than just physical activity. Jordan Boudreau a sixth degree black belt instructor at Family TaeKwon-Do is a big advocate for all martial arts.

“The physical benefits of martial arts have been known for years, whether it be, just the strength and conditioning, the cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility,” says Boudreau. “That’s been a given forever but lately, what we are really noticing is the mental health benefits of martial arts.”

Boudreau notes that the mental health benefits comes from not training alone. By being part of a group you can not only get feedback but also encouragement.

While Boudreau encourages everyone to try Taekwondo as it’s his prefered martial art, he recognizes that other people might gravitate to a different fighting style like Judo or Kickboxing. He says that people should look and see what Prince George has to offer.
