PRINCE GEORGE — Today, airports across Canada will celebrate the inaugural Airport Workers Day, including at YXS – Prince George Airport.

Airports are busy places and it takes a lot to keep an airport running and The Prince George Airport celebrated all the people that make the day-to-day operation of YXS possible, on Wednesday, with a community BBQ while showcasing new equipment and the new emergency response vehicle shelter.

The celebration will be part of a coordinated national event led by the Canadian Airport Council (CAC), in coordination with 35 Canadian airports showing appreciation for airport staff with in-person events taking place at airports throughout the day.

“Today, we join airports across Canada in celebrating the inaugural Airport Workers Day. This day is a tribute to the dedicated professionals who keep our airports running smoothly and safely, ensuring the seamless movement of people and goods. Their unwavering commitment and hard work are the backbone of our aviation industry and play a critical role in our communities and economies. We are proud to recognize and honor these individuals who go above and beyond every day. Their dedication, expertise, and passion inspire us all. On behalf of the Prince George Airport Authority, I extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all airport workers for their exceptional contributions,” says Gordon Duke, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority.

For the size of the Prince George Airport it still takes a large number of people to keep things running.

“There’s over 500 people that work at the campus here. So it’s everybody from, security staff, checking staff, baggage handlers. There’s just a really wide range of people that that every day work to get your flight out on time with your bags, you on the airplane.” – Gordon Duke, President & CEO, Prince George Airport Authority
