Where’s the Pride Parade?

Jun 27, 2024 | 5:00 AM

PRINCE GEORGE— June is Pride month across the world and to some it may seem like Prince George forgot. However that isn’t the case as the PG Pride Society and Northern B.C. Queer Connections Society is hosting a week of Pride events beginning July 5, 2024.

“June is usually considered Pride month, so why do we have PG Pride in July? The larger Queer community staggers Pride marches and festivals so that we can support one another in our smaller places and celebrate in different communities that we are connected with,” explains Kendra Mitchell-Foster, treasurer at PG Pride Society. “Pride is not just a celebration, but a protest. It is an action of solidarity that keeps 2SLGBTQIA+ people alive, visible, and engaged with our struggle for the freedom and dignity to live good lives. We have our Pride in July, because we know community and solidarity heals us, and saves lives.”

The week will kick off with a Flag raising ceremony followed by a Pride Party at Ignite Night Club on July 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Throughout the week there will be a host of other events including: the Pride Picnic on July 7, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. A Pride Movie Night on July 9, with a documentary showing of “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture” at the Knox Performance Centre. A roller skating night at the Roll-A-Dome on July 10. Pride Trivia at Deadfall Brewing on July 11. Ending with the twenty-seventh annual Prince George Pride Parade on July 13, 2024.

The Parade will begin at Canada Games Plaza at 10 a.m., Deadline to register for the parade is June 30, 2024. If you would like to participate email a registration form to pgpridesoc@gmail.com. The parade will be followed by an evening drag show at club 1177. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and show starts at 7:30 p.m.
