PRINCE GEORGE – This morning, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has officially broken ground on a new wastewater treatment facility on the northside of their Reserve Lands, location along Landooz Rd.

“Our Council is pleased to see this project come to fruition for our community and members. The process began almost five years ago, and today, along with Council and our Administrative team, we get to officially kick the project off and commence the construction phase,” stated Chief Dolleen Logan, on behalf of Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. “While we continue to push for better outcomes, the launch of this project showcases the continued challenges of not having funding, partners and support to connect the Northside and Southside of our Reserve Lands, both physically and to this system, We have been working with both the Federal and Provincial Governments to expedite this process, but this groundbreaking truly shows the disparity that our Nation continues to face in working to better our members lives.”

In mid-2020, LTFN commenced work on both the feasibility and funding of the project. From late 2021 through January 2024, the Nation received ‘Detailed Design Funding’ approval and ‘Construction Funding Approval’. These processes led to a public tendering and award process in May of this year. Through the tendering process, Twin Rivers was awarded the construction contract.

The total value for this project is $6M. The anticipated completion date is late 2024/early 2025, which will then require the appropriate commissioning process before moving to in-service status.

The Lheidli T’enneh remains concerned that only one side of the Reserve Lands are able to be connected, given the challenges associated with suitable bridge infrastructure.

Chief and Council continue to meet with Canada and BC to seek funding pathways and opportunities to effectively provide services to members living onReserve Lands
