PRINCE GEORGE — Aquatic Centre upgrade financing is back in the spotlight.

The City of Prince George says the alternate approval process (AAP) kicks off on Friday and will remain open until August 19.

At question are whether voters want to approve or reject enhancements at the pool which would cost an additional $22.1 million dollars. Just under $15 million in improvements were approved and accounted for back in April.

The City says the alternate approval process is more cost effective then a referendum – which they say would cost about $120,000 whereas an an AAP’s costs are absorbed within existing business unit budgets.

On Friday you’ll be able to either download a elector response form off the city’s website or pick one up at City Hall.

The Aquatic Centre was built in 1998 and welcomes over 240,000 visitors annually. The City says it receives regular maintenance, including replacing the movable floor, boiler replacement, structural repairs and tile refurbishment in the steam room which all happened in 2018.

The work being proposed for the Aquatic Centre is expected to add at least another 25 years to the building’s life cycle.
