PRINCE GEORGE — Thursday night (July 4) was a busy one for Prince George Fire Rescue as they responded to two structure fires.

First, crews from two fire halls responded to a structure fire at Mocassin Flats at approximately 10:23 p.m. Crews arrived to find one structure fully involved in flame, with several nearby structures beginning to burn.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire with master streams. While extinguishing the fire, another fire was observed in a nearby structure. The second fire was extinguished with handlines.

No one was injured in the fire and damages have been estimated at $2,000. The cause is considered suspicious.

A second fire broke out at 10:37 p.m. in a large residential building in the 500 block of Dominion Street.

Crews from four firehalls responded to find one unit fully charged with dark smoke. The fire in the unit was quickly extinguished with a handline. After the fire was extinguished, the remaining smoke was cleared from the building, followed by atmospheric monitoring to ensure occupant safety.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause was deemed accidental as it started from the stove area of the kitchen.

Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000.
