Highway 97 vehicle incident stalls traffic near Hixon

HIXON —Update: RCMP have released the cause of Sunday’s highway closure on Highway 97 just north of Hixon.

They say that just after 11:30 a.m., a truck loaded with empty propane tanks overturned, obstructing the northbound lanes.

Police say the truck had experienced a tire blowout, causing it to overturn and spill.

No other vehicles were involved and no one was injured. The highway fully reopened just before 3 a.m. Monday morning (July 8).

Earlier: No details have been released on a vehicle incident that closed Highway 97 in both directions just north of Hixon on Sunday (July 7).

According to Drive BC, the incident occurred in the early afternoon between Swanson Road and Colebank Road East.

RCMP have yet to comment on either the cause of the incident or if anyone was injured.

The highway fully reopened sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. Monday morning (July 8).
