Prince George expected to break heat record on Tuesday

PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George is poised to break a weather record on Tuesday (July 9).

Environment and Climate Change Canada is expecting a high of 35 degrees Celsius in Prince George on Tuesday, which would shatter the previous high of 32.2 degrees Celsius set back in 1926.

Prince George narrowly missed out on breaking a weather record on Monday (July 8) when a high of 33.5 was recorded at the Prince George Airport. The previous high was 33.9 degrees back in 1926.

Things will cool down a bit on Wednesday though, with a high of 29 expected before dipping to a high of 24 on Thursday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada attribute the drop to a ridge of high pressure that is expected to shift east of our region.

During the current heat wave, Environment and Climate Change Canada recommend you take the proper precautions, including moving to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space.

It’s also suggested you drink plenty of water and check on family, friends and neighbours, who are at higher risk, particularly if they live alone, to make sure they have a cool space.
