PRINCE GEORGE – Today is the absolute deadline for the use of plastic shopping bags. They will be banned for use in stores. It comes as deadlines in the Province’s Clean BC Action Plan are laid out.

“It means that businesses have to look at phasing out single-use plastic so there could be a higher cost associated with it,” explains Terri McClymont with REAPS. “The responsibility is on us. So taking your own silverware, taking your own straw, take in your own bags, maybe take your own containers.”

Other deadlines include the ban on the use of cellophane by July 1st, 2028 and the use of styrofoam by July 1st, 2030.
