Jul 18, 2024 | 1:03 PM

PRINCE GEORGE— Northern Health is hoping for the best but preparing for the worst as the heat wave continues to put Northern B.C. at a greater risk for wildfires. Northern Health adds that none of their facilities are impacted by the wildfires, the smoky conditions are affecting air quality in some communities.

Northern Health says that their working in collaboration with Ministry of Health, the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA),and Health Emergency Management BC (HEMBC), to ensure facility response plans are up to date. If a wildfire does impact a facility, Northern Health’s response may include the movement of patients or long-term care resident as a precaution, or due to an evacuation alert/order.

Northern Health says that they will make every effort to keep patients and communities updated about impacts or changes to local services such as non-urgent appointment or procedure cancellations, changing referral patterns for patients, or expanded NH Connections medical travel supports between communities.

To stay up to date on all wildfire activity head to the BC Wildfire Service website.
