Fire ignites just outside of Williams Lake; city activates emergency operations centre
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — UPDATE (7:40 p.m.): The City of Williams Lake has issued an evacuation alert to properties located along Mackenzie Avenue from Highway 20 to the Jackpine Sawmill Access Road near Atlantic Power.
The city has elevated its EOC activation to Level 3.
EARLIER: The City of Williams Lake has activated its emergency operations centre (EOC) in response to a wildfire that has begun just outside of the city.
The fire was discovered just before 6:00 p.m. Sunday (July 21) in the River Valley Park Trails just west of the city and spread quickly. During the 7:00 p.m. hour, the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) measured the fire at 15 hectares.
