Bowron Lake area on evacuation order

CARIBOO— the Cariboo regional district has issued an evacuation order for the Bowron Lake Park area as the Antler Creek Wildfire continues to spread.

Officials state the the immediate danger from the fires must leave the 128,637 hectares area with the help from RCMP or other groups. The evacuation route is Bowron Lake Road to Highway 26 to Quesnel. An Emergency Service Centre is in Quesnel at their District Arts & Recreation Centre, 500 N. Star Rd., Quesnel.

Those who stay in the area do so at their own risk.

If you are being evacuated officials recommend:

  • leaving the area immediately.
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available.
  • Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Do not shut off your natural gas.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Do not use more vehicles to evacuate than you have to.
  • Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.
  • Register with Emergency Support Services (ESS) listed above or online through the Evacuee Registration and Assistance tool.
