Antler Creek fire grows

PRINCE GEORGE – From 3,300 hectares to 14,000 hectares.

That’s how quickly the Antler Creek fire west of Barkerville has grown in a day.

The BC Wildfire Service says that can be attributed to the fire “gobbling up” other fires to the south.

“Yesterday, we were able to go up from with our aerial spots to be able to track the wildfire, see that it actually grew to other fires, swallowed up, however you want to put that,” explains Paula Walbauer, Fire Information Officer with the Cariboo Fire Centre. “It isn’t any closer to Barkerville than it was. It’s about two kilometers away from Barkerville. And so that has remained the same.”
