Evacuation alerts for Barkerville and Wells lifted

BARKERVILLE — Good news for residents of Wells and Barkerville.

Improved weather conditions combined with fire suppression efforts have led the District of Wells and the Cariboo Regional District to lift the evacuation alerts for both communities. The evacuation alert for the Bowron Lake area and Bowron Lake Park area have also been lifted.

The Antler Creek fire is still classified as out-of-control but the District of Wells say the BC Wildfire Service “is confident that they have the Antler Creek Fire in-hand.”

The fire caused the evacuation of both communities earlier this month, forcing residents to flee to emergency response centres in Quesnel and Prince George.
